Holiday Photos:Part Two ...

I was quite determined in my thoughts that I hadn't taken many photos while we were away. I had a reality check when I uploaded 1000 last Sunday. Many of the photos were deleted as I was working through examples in the book Understanding Exposure, by Bryan Peterson. Most of my keepers were from the FatMumSlim check list; this fact was interesting to me. I certainly like to take lots of practise photos, but the ones with meaning, despite technical competency, are the ones I am interested in for their stories and emotions.

I'm working on subtraction. The idea came to me from a newsletter I get from Ali Edwards and I would thoroughly recommend signing up if you haven't already. Years ago I enjoyed Ali's newsletters and again the themes are resonating.
Less doesn't necessarily mean bare or spartan. Taking away is often positive, think about the last time you took something away and your experience/creativity/reality was enhanced.

I get Ali's newsletter and read about 'subtraction' with interest....as you can probably imagine....quite a difficult concept for me....but one I should embrace!!

Isn't it great that you are able to your children the exact same sort of childhood you had. I'm liking the shot of your ear!

Lovely photos - I am intrigued by the house/homestead behind the lamp; does it have a particular significance? Yes, taking away is good. :)

Yes Alexa, that building has a great deal of significance and you have given me an idea for February's Storytelling Sunday.

Ruth, I love the fact that our children get to have so many wonderful holidays where I grew up ... walking up and down that road was a big feature.

Great photos, as always . . . Your children's blue eyes always blow me away. I'm also a big fan of your self-portrait and the paints.

I've been a long-time subscriber to Ali's newsletter and the last two have been especially worthwhile. Lots to think about since I'm not home to do any subtracting!
