Tuesday WITL ...

Half time on Tuesday has me asking a couple of questions. How does one convey the constant 'encouragement' which is needed to motivate young children getting ready for school, via a photo?

The Tooth Fairy visited overnight, $2 is the going price in these parts ... what ever happened to 20c?

Thank goodness both children love fruit, it makes packing a school lunch considerably easier.

Tuesday morning is when I help in the classroom.

I've decided on my templates, I am going with Cathy Zielske's School Album 8.5x11 which is available at Designer Digitals. If you have these templates you will notice that there is not a great deal of room for journaling, I'm going for a condensed journaling version this year but will adapt one of the pages for an overview section.
What I am noticing after a day and a half is that we are in the school time routine, the majority of our days will appear quite similar and lunches look the same each day. While the day to day has that familiarity, how we are living life is vastly different to my WITL album from last year which was done in May. Are you noticing any differences from the last time you WITLed? If this is your first time, how are you going?

Edited: For Julie and anyone else who is interested, if you click on the label at the bottom of my post you will be taken to all of my entries containing WITL from this year and last year.

  1. Any of Cathy Z's templates will be great.... hopefully quick and easy.

  2. I agree with Kathy - Cathy's templates are great... Love the shot of the school room :) Yes, $2 would have gone a long way when I was a child :)

  3. I love how our lives are upside down. You're in the first week of winter shool, we're in the first week of summer holidays. You're finishing up your day as I am beginning mine.
One thing's the same - Fairy inflation is at similar high here and children are just as difficult to get ready for school.
I didn't see your WITL last year, any chance could you include a link in your next post?

  4. Motivation to get ready for school... hmmm... I did read somewhere, a family had made a tape of music they liked; it started with stuff to wake up to, then carried on with music that gradually became more up-beat (kind-of motivational perhaps?), getting to the "hurry up" kind of tunes... They used it as a sort-of sound-track for their mornings. It was switched on at getting-up time and played in the background (I don't think we're talking rock-concert volumes here...) throughout dressing, breakfast and getting ready. By the time they should be ready to jump in the car, the music was quick and busy. The idea was that it became part of the "habit" of a morning. They all recognised that a particular tune happened at "shower time", or "cereal time", or "leave the house now time". The lady said that if they needed to go out a little bit earlier, the tape could be wound on a bit and somehow it helped them to get ready sooner.
A sort of psychological conditioning trick, I suppose, but it did work for their family. Don't know if similar ideas would work for you ... do you have a cd that the children like, which might carry them along in a similar way - perhaps from when they come into the kitchen/family room for breakfast? Just an idea anyway...

Well done on the template decision. Funny how small stuff can be important really!

I will def. "do" WITL some time soon. Maybe I'll pick a week once we're home from our holidays, then keep the camera and a note-book handy, as you all do; then just try to observe stuff, like routines and unusual happenings and journal about them. I could even blog my WITL and print off the posts... or use it as practise for digi-scrapping!
Interesting to see little snippets from your day. Live is similar wherever we are - the general routine. I love to see the "extra" stuff too - like when you visit the farm and go to the beach... Also interesting to see how big and light your children's classroom is - my DS' primary school classrooms were not as nice as this - much more cramped - and never this light in winter!
Have a good evening & Wednesday - since it must be nearly bed-time with you now!

  5. Like the sneak peeks into their lunches and ouch! about the tooth fairy. I guess inflation is running high in the little people world too. :) Last time I did WIYL was 2009 and it coincided with a week off work following a small operation, so it was very different: much more leisurely. I've seen some interesting suggestions for different shots/focus (foci?) over at the Big Picture Scrapbooking forum, if that's of any help...

  6. It'll probably be much more interesting to look back on,when different times of the year are involved.
I reckon the tooth fairies must be amongst the mega-rich these days!!

  7. The going rate round here is £1 a time (though I did hear someone ask for an inflation adjusted rate recently. Wonder who they got that from?!)

  8. Hi Amy, Great shots, esp the class room one. I went in for reading yesterday morning to Tahlia's room and they didn't need any mums for some reason and iI was so mad as I really wanted the classroom shot. I'll have to think outside the box to get a good room shots. The tooth fairy came in our house on the weekend and seeing as it was Tahlia's first tooth the fairy left a $5 note....AHHHHH, That is sooo much. I remember getting 20 or 50 cents! We are all going to go broke.
Looking fwd to seeing your photos in the template.

  9. Oh, I do not miss those days of getting a slow and grumpy kiddo up and ready for school. Carrie was the worst! LOL When she was in junior high school I bought her an alarm clock and said, "Here. Use it or be late!"

Remember that even though your days may seem to repeat themselves for WITL, 10 years from now you'll look back and be somewhat wistful. xo
